There is love in everyone's life, in one way or another. The focus of this art journal prompt is on some dedications to what we love the most.
What do you love the most? Is it a person, a place, a thing, an emotion, an event? Love in everyone’s life in one way or another. Focusing on this love is what this art journal prompt is all about. You could dedicate a different page spread for all the different things you love about your life, or group it all together in one page spread.
For this mixed media art journal prompt, you will need the following materials:
- Art journal
- Collage items depicting things you love
- Ephemera depicting things you love
- Photographs or reproductions of photographs of things you love
- Decorative papers
- Heavy-duty glue stick
- Light colored construction or craft paper
- Black ultra-fine sharpie
- Watercolor or acrylic paint
- Waxed paper
- Paint or sponge brushes
- Small containers of water
Follow these simple instructions for completing this mixed media art journal prompt:
- Open your art journal to the first blank page spread. If needed, make a list of all the things you love on a separate piece of paper. This might help you gather the supplies necessary to complete this art journal prompt.
- Place a piece of waxed paper behind each page in the page spread to protect the pages in the rest of your art journal. Using the watercolor or acrylic paint and the sponge brush, create a light color wash in your favorite color over both sides of the page spread. Allow to dry completely.
- Cut the decorative papers into quarters and affix them to both sides of the page spread in random areas. Try to keep them from being too straight and rigid-looking so the page spread will be more interesting.
- Cut the light colored construction paper so it is a half-inch smaller than the decorative paper all the way around, and attach it to the center of each piece. This will create a boarder around each piece of light colored paper.
- Write out your thoughts about what you love, or simply list it all out on the light colored paper using the black ultra-fine sharpie. Try experimenting with different styles of writing and fonts, if possible.
- Collage over the entire page spread using the collage items, ephemera, and photographs collected prior to starting this art journal prompt. Layer these items over the text blocks, but be sure the text still shows.
That is all there is to creating this mixed-media art journal prompt. As mentioned above, try creating more than one page spread for this prompt. Encourage other friends and family members to work on this with you. It will be a good opportunity for you to learn something new about each other!
