Turn your art journal into a tool through use of this art journal prompt. Not only will you be able to create some art, but you will also sort through issues.
We are all worried about something, and these worries tend to overwhelm thoughts and feelings. There are other times when these worries invade parts of lives in a very unwanted way. Work through this art journal prompt to help alleviate some stress and worry.
For this art journal prompt, you will need the following materials:
- Art journal
- Heavy-duty glue stick
- Crayons, colored pencils, or glitter gel pens
- Watercolor paint
- Ballpoint pen
- Collage embellishments
Work through this art journal prompt by following these steps:
- Open your art journal to the first blank page spread. Look at the blank pages for a moment before moving on. Let your mind wander for a little while. Take as long as you need to think about what you are worried about and what else might be bothering you.
- Gather all of your supplies and set up the rest of your work area. Choose collage embellishments that inspire you, make you happy, and get your creative juices flow. If you want to create a theme with these elements, go ahead so long as it does not stifle your creativity in any way.
- Using the ballpoint pen, write out everything you are worried about or have been worried about within the past few days. Write it out in a random way, all over the pages.
- Add a color wash over both sides of the page spread, covering over each page completely. Do not worry if you smudge, smear, or completely block out your text. Allow the wash to dry completely. This can be speeded up if you have a heat gun or by using a blow dryer.
- Add collage embellishments in random places over the art journal pages. Allow to dry completely. Add another layer of paint using swirls. Allow to dry completely.
- Using crayons, colored pencils or glitter gel pens, add quotations, journal entries, or poetry. These passages can be themed around your worries, or just random thoughts.
There is no right or wrong way of completing this art journal prompt. The idea is to get all your worries down on paper, and then transform them into something creative and inspiring. Yes, you will be thinking about what worries you for a period of time and that might not be creative or inspiring at all. However, the simple act of getting it all out and on to paper is very therapeutic. In addition to that, it helps keep the creative process a part of your life.
