What Are You Afraid of? Address Your Worries With This Art Project.

Everyone is afraid of something; there is no getting away from that. This art journal prompt focuses on facing these fears.

The purpose of this art journal prompt is not about remedying fears, but rather facing them. When individuals are able to face their fears, strength ensues and they are one step closer to overcoming this fear. That is the focus of this prompt: putting yourself one step closer.

For this mixed media art journal prompt, you will need the following materials:

Follow these simple instructions for completing this mixed media art journal prompt:

  1. Open your art journal to the first page spread. Think for a moment about what your fears are, and then write them out in ballpoint pen. Try filling as much of the page as possible, exploring every issue and possible solution.
  2. Take out the walnut distress ink and ink along the edges of both sides of the page spread. Using a stipple brush, add some distress ink to various areas of the writing.
  3. While the ink is drying, cut the black paper into quarters. Crumple up each piece, and then flatten them out completely so the crumple texture shows. Affix between three and five pieces, layered over each other, to both sides of the page spread.
  4. Using the gel pens, write out positive affirmations about each of the fears you explored. Create decorative boarders around each of the pieces of paper. An option to consider is using decorative scissors to cut along the edges of each piece of paper.

Additional ideas for embellishments:

Do not be surprised if one page spread is not enough to get all your thoughts and affirmations out. Continue this art journal prompt on as many page spreads as necessary to completely explore your thoughts, your reasoning, your solutions, and the resources needed to alleviate these fears and feelings. If you are comfortable doing so, share this experience with someone you trust. Encourage them to do the same.
