Sometimes it is difficult to stay firm with a decision that has been made. Make this decision tangible through the creation of mixed media art.
Have you recently been faced with a tough decision and, even though you are faced with adversity, you wish to stand firm with the decision you have made? This is common in the business world, as well as with politics. Parents also know what it is like to be challenged constantly when making a decision that is not favorable to all household members.
Make this decision tangible through the creation of mixed-media art. That is the focus of this art journal prompt. You have made the decision, you are standing by this decision, and you want it clear that you are not changing your mind. For this mixed media art journal prompt, you will need the following materials:
- Art journal
- Waxed paper
- Watercolor or acrylic paint
- Small containers of water
- Paint or sponge brushes
- Yellow highlighter
- Ballpoint pen (black or blue)
- Red ultra-fine sharpie
- Heavy-duty glue stick
- Loose-leaf paper
- Alpha-stamps
- Black stamp pad
Follow these simple instructions to complete this mixed media art journal prompt:
- Open your art journal to the first blank page spread. Place a piece of waxed paper behind each page in the spread to protect the rest of the pages in your art journal.
- Using watercolor or acrylic paint, create a color wash over both sides of the page spread. Choose a color that best reflects the mood you are in, or the decision that was being made. Add deeper color to the edges of the page spread for a more dramatic appearance. Allow the page spread to dry completely. You can speed the drying time through use of a heat gun or a hair dryer.
- Tear the loose-leaf paper into quarters with a deckled edge. Tear along the clean edges so all four sides are deckled. Write out everything that was part of the decision making process, and then your final decision. Try filling up as much of the paper with text as possible. Be as detailed as possible.
- Affix the pieces of loose-leaf paper to the page spread in random order. Be sure the edges are secured firmly into place so nothing peels up or falls off.
- When the adhesive has dried, add another layer of paint. Choose to use the same color, a complimenting color, or one that does not match at all. You can either paint over your text, or focus only on the edges of the papers. Allow the pages to dry completely.
- Using the red ultra-fine sharpie and the yellow highlighter, put emphasis on certain words, phrases or other pieces of text. Circle words, cross them out, put asterisks next to them, and so on. Use arrows, doodles, and whatever else you choose to bring importance to the decision you have made.
- Take out the alpha-stamps and black stamp pad. Across the entire page spread, stamp out the words: FINAL DECISION. Add more stamped words, phrases, and text to make your point clear.
That is all there is to creating this mixed media art journal prompt. Repeat this art journal prompt until your final decision is completely conveyed and completely tangible. This art journal spread can be for your own personal use, or to use when explaining to other individuals how you arrived at your final decision. Understanding the decision making process is important to some, so do not be afraid to share this work with others.
